Learning Greek is fun!

During our internship, we learned that education does not end with our duties, as acquiring new vocabulary is equally important. In everyday conversations, previously unknown expressions appear, which are easier to remember thanks to the context and frequent use. It is particularly interesting to learn the basics of a foreign language in a natural work environment.

During our stay so far, we have learned words such as:

Καλημέρα /kalimera/ – good morning

Καλησπέρα /kalispera/ – good evening

Γεια σας /ja sas/ – hello

Ναι /ne/ – yes

Όχι /ohi/ – no

Ευχαριστώ /efharisto/ – thank you

Παρακαλώ /parakalo/ – please / you’re welcome

Συγγνώμη /signomi/ – sorry / excuse me

Ανοιχτός /anihtos/ – open

Κλειστός /klistos/ – closed

As well as other basic ones, such as:

Ένα /ena/ – one

Δύο /dyo/ – two

Τρία /tria/ – three

Τέσσερα /tessera/ – four

Πέντε /pente/ – five

Αριστερά /aristera/ – left

Δεξιά /dexia/ – right

Ευθεία /eftia/ – straight ahead

Ένα νερό /ena nero/ – water

Ένα καφέ /ena kafe/ – coffee

At the foot of Mount Olympus

Today was a day full of experiences. In the morning, we were all at work, carrying out our daily responsibilities. In the afternoon, we got on a coach and set off towards the picturesque town of Litochoro. This charming place, located at the foot of Mount Olympus, impressed us with its peaceful atmosphere and traditional architecture. Walking through its narrow streets, we could truly feel the Greek vibe — stone houses, cozy cafés, and beautiful views.

One of the highlights of our visit was the waterfall, which we reached after a short walk. Surrounded by greenery and crystal-clear water, it was a perfect spot to relax and take photos. There was also some time for small pleasures — we bought a few souvenirs.

Our next stop was Panteleimonas — a very atmospheric mountain village, where we admired stunning views of the surrounding area and the Aegean Sea. Today’s trip was a perfect combination of work and relaxation, as well as a great opportunity to spend time together and discover new, remarkable places.

A taste of Greece

Today we want to tell you a bit about our internship at the Cronwell Platamon Resort. This week we are working in the main restaurant, and it has been an incredible experience so far. The restaurant is very spacious and bright, as you can see. The buffet area is the heart of the restaurant, where we serve all the delicious food. The wooden tables and chairs create a cozy atmosphere where guests can relax and enjoy their meals 🥙

Greek kitchen is all about fresh, local ingredients: olive oil, vegetables, feta cheese, and aromatic herbs 🌿🌱. At the hotel, guests can try traditional dishes and a huge variety of fresh food. Our breakfast buffet includes everything from different types of bread cakes to a wide selection of cheeses 🧀 and cold cuts and many other dishes.

We also make sure to display allergen information clearly to keep everyone safe.

After work, we also find time to explore and shop! Today we went out to buy some souvenirs. There were so many pretty things to choose from, but we couldn't resist the jewellery. We actually bought ourselves some bracelets and necklaces.

We also want to share a delicious sweet recipe with you 🍬. The Famous Greek "Jellies", called Loukoumi, are a traditional Greek treat. They are soft, chewy, and very sweet - perfect with a cup of Greek coffee!

Ingredients: 4 cups sugar, 1 cup cornstarch, 2 cups water, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1/2 cup water (to mix with starch), food coloring, rose or lemon extract, and plenty of powdered sugar mixed with cornstarch for coating.

Instructions: Boil sugar and 2 cups of water to create a syrup. Mix cornstarch with 1/2 cup of water and slowly whisk it into the boiling syrup. Add lemon juice and simmer on low heat for about 20–30 minutes, stirring constantly until thick and translucent. Stir in your flavoring and coloring. Pour into a lined tray and let it set for several hours (or overnight). Once firm, cut into cubes and toss them in a bowl of powdered sugar and cornstarch until heavily coated.

A taste of baklava on Sunday

On Sunday, we spent a calm and relaxing day at the hotel because the weather was cloudy. Everyone spent time with their roommates, talking, listening to music, and relaxing together indoors. Even though we stayed inside, we had a really nice time together.

Since we are in Greece, we would also like to share a traditional Greek baklava recipe. Baklava is a sweet dessert made with layers of phyllo pastry, nuts, butter, and syrup. 🥜It tastes delicious with tea or coffee.

Ingredients:

-500 g phyllo pastry

-300 g chopped walnuts

-1 teaspoon cinnamon

-250 g melted butter

Syrup:

-300 g sugar

-200 ml water

-2 tablespoons honey

Preparation: Layer the phyllo pastry in a buttered baking tray, brushing each layer with melted butter. Add chopped walnuts mixed with cinnamon between some layers. Finish with several pastry layers on top, cut the baklava into pieces, and bake at 180°C for about 40 minutes until golden brown. To make the syrup, boil sugar, water, and honey for a few minutes, then pour it over the warm baklava. Leave it to soak before serving.

A carefree Saturday

Saturday finally brought us a much-needed pause. After an intense week of work and two demanding trips, at last we had the chance to slow down, recharge, and simply enjoy a carefree day together in the city. There was no strict schedule this time—just wandering through the streets, sharing laughs, discovering small local spots, and appreciating each other’s company without the usual rush. We embraced the freedom of the day, taking time for long conversations over coffee, spontaneous walks, and moments that made us feel more like a group of friends than just participants of the Erasmus experience. It was a reminder that sometimes the best memories are created not during planned activities, but in the quiet, unstructured hours in between.

Unfortunately, the weather did not quite live up to our expectations of Greece. Instead of bright sunshine and warm air, we were met with a more gloomy and unpredictable atmosphere. Still, we didn’t let that dampen our mood. If anything, it made the cozy moments together even more meaningful. As we move into our final week, we remain hopeful that Greece will surprise us with the kind of warm, golden sunshine we had been dreaming of. No matter what, we are determined to make the most of the time we have left—collecting memories, enjoying every shared moment, and soaking in the experience to the fullest.

Pray, work and rest like a monk!

Today was an unforgettable day full of new experiences ✨. At 10 a.m., the group set off on a trip to the famous Meteora monasteries 🏞️. They had the opportunity to visit one of the monasteries from the inside ⛪, where they learned about the daily life of the monks. It was fascinating to discover that their day is carefully structured into 8 hours of prayer 🙏, 8 hours of work 💼, and 8 hours of rest 😴

Later, they visited a local shop 🛍️, where they learned about the traditional process of gilding religious icons ✨🖼️. It was a unique and unusual experience that allowed them to see craftsmanship up close.

At the end of the trip, they stopped at the Greek fast-food chain Goody’s 🍔, where they could relax and enjoy a meal together 😋. After returning to the hotel 🏨, they had some free time to rest and reflect on the day.
