A trip to Delphi

Today we explored Greece's key historical sites. We began in Delphi, situated on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. First, we walked along the Sacred Way past the reconstructed Treasury of the Athenians, eventually reaching the Temple of Apollo complex. It was here, amidst the monumental columns, that the seat of the oracle was located in ancient times. At the end of our uphill climb, we saw the Stadium where ancient games were held. Later in the day, we headed to Thermopylae. We stopped at the Leonidas Monument, erected at the site of the famous battle against the Persians.

These are the ruins of the Temple of Apollo. It was the most significant point of the entire sanctuary, serving as the seat of the Pythia—the famous oracle sought for advice by people from across the ancient world. The visible Doric columns date back to the 4th century BCE.
 

This is the Treasury of the Athenians. It was erected at the turn of the 6th and 5th centuries BCE to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Marathon and to store votive offerings and gifts dedicated by Athens to the god Apollo. It is one of the best-preserved and reconstructed structures in Delphi.

The Stadium, located at the highest part of the archaeological site. It could accommodate approximately 6,500 spectators and hosted the Pythian Games, which, alongside the Olympic Games, were among the most important sporting events in ancient Greece.
